Hi, my name Guy Wills and I am a freelance photographer based near Biggleswade, Bedfordshire in the UK. I focus on sports action photography, including the following:

  • Football

  • Hockey

  • Rugby

  • Cricket

  • Motor Sports

  • American Football

  • Water Sports

  • Horse Shows

My main kit:

  • 2x Nikon D500s

  • Nikon 200-400mm f/4 VRII lens

  • Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VRII lens

Thinking about writing this piece, I realized that I've been interested in photography for most of my life. From when I must have been about 7, I started playing with a broken Kodak No.2 Brownie folding camera belonging to my Grandfather. This was partly the engineer in I me wanting to learn how the camera worked, and seeing my Grandfather's photos of his travels.

As a young teenager I was given and bought, various film cameras mainly 110's and Instamatics, taking pictures of friends and holidays. Once I'd left the parental nest to study Engineering at Aston Uni, I bought my first "real" camera, a Pentax ME SLR. This is when I first started shooting sport action. Back in those days the RAC Rally and the practice days for F1 providing easy access to the smell of petrol and burning brakes.

I continued using Pentax film SLR's and eventually took the plunge into digital with the first Pentax istD. For me the digital age was a revolution, and my interest and time spent taking images and learning about photography, took off. Eventually I switched horses to Nikon to get a better lens choice, and over the years continued to upgrade (D70s, D300, D3s and D500) to handle the low light levels available at a cold wet Tuesday evening game in December in the UK.

I'm a self taught photographer, learning from books, the internet and learning from other photographers. I also attend a local Camera Club and this has taught me to be more self critical and getting into better habits when planning and taking pictures. But the most important learning resource has been experience.
